BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the seven foundation Departments of the Faculty of Science, which was established in 2013 to offer a degree programme, B.Sc.Biology. The Department also caters for the needs of B.Sc. Education, and services other Departments within and outside the Faculty.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAMME
The Biology programme provides basic training to the award of B. Sc. Honours in Biology and caters for the needs of B. Sc. Education, Chemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology, and Biochemistry Students. The programme is also designed to produce intellectuals and professionals with advanced knowledge of fundamentals of living organisms coupled with research capabilities to take and solve problems independently.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The main aim and objectives of the degree programme in Biological Sciences should be:
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics, to form the core course with credit in three other relevant science subjects Biology, Chemistry, Technical drawing, Agricultural Science and Geography at the senior secondary school certificate or its equivalent and at least a pass in Physics. In addition, an acceptable pass in the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) into 100 level is required.
NOTE THAT; Expected duration for UTME candidates shall be four (4) years.
Expected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics) may undertake the three-year degree programme into 200 Level.
